Club terms

1. About these terms

These terms apply to everyone who takes part in Portsmouth United Volleyball Club activities — members, players trying a session, coaches and volunteers. By joining the club or taking part, you agree to them. They sit alongside our privacy notice and photo consent policy.

2. Who can join

• The club is open to all. Players need to be 18 or over, or if under 18, a parent or guardian must be present with them at all club activities — training, matches and events.
• Your membership starts once you’ve registered with the club and paid your membership fee.
• Players selected for league matches must also be registered with Volleyball England. We’ll help you with this.

3. Your first session

Your first session is free, so you can try the club before you join. Please get in touch before you come so we know to expect you.

4. Fees and payments

• Membership for the 2026/27 season is paid by monthly standing order, in line with the NVL season, which runs from September 2026 to the last week of March 2027. Payments are due on the 1st of each month, from 1 September 2026 to 1 March 2027. All members must set one up.
• Monthly fees, set by the committee:
  • Standard player, including NVL and Hampshire VA Division 1: £40 a month (£280 for the full season)
  • Student, for any team depending on selection: £31 a month (£217)
  • Hampshire VA Division 2 or training only: £36 a month (£252)

• Your fee starts in the month you join. For example, if you join in November, you pay from November to March.
• Everyone keeps paying until the end of the season, whichever membership you have. The last payment is on 1 March 2027.
• Once you’ve joined, we’ll send you the club’s bank details to set up your standing order.
• Your first session is free (see section 3).
• Your fees need to be up to date for you to train and be selected for matches. If you’re struggling to pay, please speak to the Treasurer in confidence.
• Refunds are only given in extenuating circumstances, with proof. Please contact the Treasurer.

5. Training and matches

• Club training is on Thursdays, 19:50–21:50, at Chichester College. Sessions are organised on Spond — please reply to each event so the coaches can plan.
• Arrive on time, wear suitable sports kit and non-marking indoor court shoes, and follow the coaches’ instructions.
• Selection for league matches is made by the head coach, based on availability, commitment and performance.
• Let the coach know as early as you can if you can’t make a match you’ve been selected for.

6. Code of conduct

Our values — united, ambitious, proud of Portsmouth and open to all — apply everywhere we play. Everyone at the club agrees to:

• treat teammates, opponents, officials, coaches, volunteers and venue staff with respect;
• never discriminate, bully, harass or abuse anyone, in person or online;
• play fairly, accept officials’ decisions and follow the rules of the game and of Volleyball England;
• not attend club activities under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
• look after the venues we use and follow their rules;
• represent the club well on social media, and not share anything that could embarrass or harm others or the club.

7. Safeguarding and welfare

Everyone should feel safe at our club. We follow Volleyball England’s safeguarding guidance. If you have a concern about anyone’s welfare, speak to our Welfare Officer, Hugo Nascimento, or email puvc2022@gmail.com. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999.

8. Health, safety and injuries

• Volleyball is a physical sport and, like any sport, carries a risk of injury. Only take part if you’re fit to do so.
• Tell the coach before a session about any injury or medical condition that could affect you while playing. We’ll keep this confidential and only share it with those who need to know.
• Report any injury that happens at a club activity to the coach or a committee member on the day.
• Nothing in these terms limits the club’s responsibilities where it would be unlawful to do so.

9. Kit and the club’s name and crest

• Players wear the club’s match kit in league matches: Spinnaker Blue at home, white away, and Star Gold for the libero.
• The club’s name, crest and slogan belong to the club. Always use the full name, Portsmouth United Volleyball Club, and ask the club before using the crest on anything new, such as kit, banners or social media graphics.

10. Photos and personal information

We take photos and video at club activities with consent, as set out in our photo consent policy. We look after the personal information you give us as described in our privacy notice.

11. If things go wrong

If these terms or our code of conduct are broken, the committee may give a warning, suspend someone from club activities, or end their membership, depending on how serious it is. Anyone affected will have the chance to give their side before a decision is made and can ask the committee to review it. Safeguarding concerns are always handled in line with Volleyball England’s guidance.

12. Leaving the club

You can leave at any time by emailing puvc2022@gmail.com. Please return any club kit or equipment you’ve borrowed.

13. Changes to these terms

The committee may update these terms from time to time. The latest version is always on this page, and we’ll let members know about any important changes.
