Portsmouth United Volleyball Club is a new club with a simple idea: bring people together from many shores and play as one team.
Our story
A club made in Portsmouth
Portsmouth United Volleyball Club was founded in 2022.
From the start the aim has been clear: build a club that competes seriously and welcomes everyone. For the 2026/27 season our men’s team has been admitted to the National Volleyball League, playing in Division 3 South West — a big step for a young club, and only the beginning. We are affiliated with Volleyball England and the Hampshire Volleyball Association.
Portsmouth is Britain’s only island city and a port that has welcomed people from all over the world. Our squad reflects that. Many shores. One team.

The crest
Sail, ball and stars
Our crest puts the city at the heart of the club. The sail is the Spinnaker Tower, Portsmouth’s landmark on the harbour. The volleyball sits inside it. The two gold eight-point stars are a nod to the stars on the city’s arms.
The crest is always used whole — ring, lettering, sail and ball together — because the club is one team.
A volunteer committee and a head coach who give their time so everyone else can get on court. Questions about the club, coaching or welfare? These are the people to speak to.

Najibullah leads the committee and steers where the club is heading, keeping every decision true to what we stand for: united, ambitious, proud of Portsmouth and open to all.

Sio keeps the club organised behind the scenes, from league admin and committee meetings to communications and looking after the club’s brand.

Daniel looks after the club’s money, from memberships and budgets to partner funding, so that it goes back into getting more people on court.

Welfare officer
Hugo Nascimento
Hugo makes sure everyone at the club feels safe, respected and welcome, and is the first person to talk to about any welfare or safeguarding concern.
Did you know? Alongside the club, Samir is also developing talent with the University of Portsmouth volleyball team.
Head coach

Samir leads Thursday training and our NVL match days, turning players from many backgrounds into one team on court.
Safeguarding and welfare. Everyone should feel safe at our club. We follow Volleyball England’s safeguarding guidance. Players under 18 must have a parent or guardian present at all club activities.
